I obviously could not do a city guide with out talking about where the good shopping is. The shopping in Charleston is amazing, King St. is where it is at. There are blocks upon blocks of shops; chain store (Forever 21, J.Crew…), high end stores (Gucci, Louis Vuitton), and also several local shops, Shoes on King is one of my favorite.
During the day I enjoy just walking around the city, every turn you make you discover something new. The girls and I walked down to Rainbow Row, which was well worth the 15(ish) minute walk from out hotel (which I will talk about soon). We enjoyed the walk to Rainbow Row almost as much as the street itself. See what I wore to Rainbow Row here. Also if you have time I suggest visiting Battery park which is very close, so easy to do in one afternoon.
The Charleston city market is a great place for any souvenir shopping you are wanting to do. This is also where you will want to go if you want to do any informational tours or carriage rides around the city.
I stayed at the Belmond Charleston Place which is the same hotel that the Blog Societies conference was hosted at. This hotel is in the heart of Charleston, right between King St. and Market St. so you are walking distance to just about everything. The accommodations are amazing and I would definitely stay there again. The staff was so nice, and it was a treat to stay there. See what I packed for Charleston here.
We all love food, it’s no lie. Charleston is full of local restaurants so there is always something new and different to eat. My favorite all time cheap and easy eat is Jestine’s Kitchen, they have the best fried chicken! We ate dinner one night at Fleet Landing which was very good, I had the crab cakes. During the conference most of our meals were at the different restaurants within the Belmond hotel, all were very good. We grabbed some coffee at the Rise Coffee Bar, the coffee was great and it was totally “Instagram worthy”. While shopping on King St. my two favorite lunch spots are Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe (great gyros and hummus), and also Kitchen 208 for a great sandwich or salad.
As for nightlife, which if you know me you know I am usually a stay at home kinda girl, I did venture out with the girls for a fun Saturday evening. We first went to The Rarebit, it was a cool place, they are known for their Moscow Mules, I didn’t try one but all of the other girls said they were amazing. Then we headed over (literally across the street) to The Cocktail Club, it was a cool industrial/loft feel and had outdoor space which was nice.
Finally Don’t forget to enter in here to win a Macbook air and a Tory Burch bag, good luck ladies!
Dresses are my go to for Charleston. In August it is going to be hot, humid, hot, muggy, and did I mention hot? I think dresses are the best choice for any hot day, you stay cool(ish) and look cute! I also like to pack my dresses in a garment bag, I have them pre ironed at home, so this minimizes any wrinkles during travel. I get asked a lot if I wear spanks for anything under my dresses to make it more comfortable when walking around all day. No I do not wear spanks, ever, so uncomfortable. However I do wear these under almost all of my dresses, they are not to tight, but make wearing dresses so much more comfortable.
I always pack seem to pack so many shoes, don’t judge. I just never know what I am going to be in the mood for. I packed all of my shoes and bags in a separate bag (my Kate Spade weekender bag). This way they don’t get crushed or damaged. I know I will be doing a lot of walking around Charleston, so I stuck with packing mostly flats and only one pair of comfortable heals.
What makeup to pack for Charleston (or any southern hot humid city). I packed my trust Este Lauder double wear, this stuff still stay on through a hurricane, trust me. Setting your foundation is key to helping it stay on all day in the heat. I “bake” (pack on the powder) under my eyes, nose, and chin, and then lightly set the rest of my face all using this powder. My go to lip product for the heat is a liquid lipstick that I know will not melt off my face, this is my current favorite.
