Casual Friday is such a vague concept that leaves many woman wondering what is really appropriate for “casual Friday”. Every work environment will be different but I want to share my general guidelines for casual Friday. Now keep in mind when choosing how “casual” you want to be, also remember even on Friday you are always dressing for the job you WANT not the job you have. So if you stroll into work in yoga pants and your favorite t-shirt you are giving the impression to your boss that you are already mentally at home on the couch, not giving them your best work.
- Jeans – Jeans are fine on Friday, but not just any jeans. No over distressing such as holes or extreme washes (no acid wash..). A classic clean dark wash is perfect. You can get creative with the cut of your jeans; skinny, boot, or a fun flare like I am wearing.
- Tops– My top and blazer are on the more formal side of casual Friday, if I changed into slacks and a flat or heel I would be ready for work any other day of the week. You can go more casual than I have with just a top and no blazer, or a cute sweater. Screen printed shirts are never work appropriate though. Also just because it is Friday and you might go out after work, wearing low-cut tops to work are not okay.
- Shoes– I am wearing booties which are cute and comfortable and can dress up a jean. Any cute flat, boot, or heels (no platforms) are acceptable. Still avoid flip flops (when it warms up) sandals are fine but flip flops and tennis shoes are too casual for work.
